Opposition Leader Shaktisinh Gohil pointed out vacancy of seven years to Governor Kamla. Leading the delegation Gohil convinced Governor of Gujarat. She then appointed Retd. Justice R. A. Mehta to the Chair on suggestion of Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court S J Mukhopadhaya to the state government. After thorough consultation Governor took the right decision for Gujaratis. According to Rule 3 of the state's Lokayukta Act, the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court can suggest the Lokayukta after consultation with the Leader of Opposition. The Gujarat government has no role to play in the appointment of the Lokayukta.
