Rains in the summer season. Its the effect of global warming. One word is behind it.
We see beautiful trees with amazing nature. One word is behind it.
We get older year by year. One word is behind it.
We work by our brains. One word is behind it.
We drink water (H2O). One word is behind it.
We are we due to that one word.
From sunrise to sunset, we can find that one word everywhere.
We would have not lived if that one word was not there in our lives.
That one word comes from Latin word 'scientia' meaning knowledge.
I am speaking of 'Science'.
How do we define science?
According to Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary, the definition of science is "knowledge attained through study or practice," or "knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, esp. as obtained and tested through scientific method [and] concerned with the physical world."
It means Science refers to a system of acquiring knowledge. This system uses observation and experimentation to describe and explain natural phenomena.
We celebrate Science day on 28th February. We celebrate it not because to dedicate one day for Science which is everywhere. But we celebrate it to mark the novel discovery of Raman Effect by the great Indian Physicist Sir C. V. Raman on 28th February, 1928. Raman Effect is a phenomenon in spectroscopy discovered by the eminent physicist while working in the laboratory of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of science, Kolkata. After two years of this discovery, Sir C. V. Raman brought the first Nobel Award for the country in 1930. Hence the National Science Day is a great day for Indian Science and scientific community.
The basic objective of observation of National Science Day is to spread the message of importance of science and its application among the people. This was the later formed objective that is after Raman Effect. Till that day or say year, we were not valuing Science in our lives. Due to Raman, we got to know importance of Science.
I salute Sir C.V. Raman for enlightening us with knowledge which means Science.
